My name is Alexis and I’m an ice cream addict. If I could, I’d eat ice cream once per day. Wait, I think I do that already. Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Oreo, Haagan Daz, Ben and Jerry’s … I love em all.
But once in awhile you hit the jackpot, better yet, the ICE CREAM jackpot. After reading raving reviews about the New Orleans Ice Cream Company from the wonderful The Ice Cream Informant, I decided to bite the bullet and order eight cartons. The shipping fee was thirty bucks so I knew I had to order more than two cartons to make the order worthwhile.
The ice cream arrived on my doorstep about six days later in a container of dry ice. Once I took my first bite, I knew I made the right move paying the thirty bucks for shipping. This stuff was ice cream perfection!
New Orleans Ice Cream is an ice cream experience second to none. The flavor combos are spot on. The texture creamy. The mix-ins generous with each bite. While some ice creams give you little nuggets of “cake”, small shards of candy pieces, or inconsistent swirls, a NOLA cake-based ice cream gives you chunks of grandmother’s moist cake inside each bite! My favorite was the Cafe Au Lait & Beignets (coffee ice cream with beignet pieces (fried sugary doughnut) and a sugary swirl). The Chic Files’s favorite was the Lemon Doberge Cake (tangy lemon sauce, real lemon cake in citrus lemon ice cream).
I hope to one day get to New Orleans. I heard Mardi Gras was cool and I love jazz and gumbo. But for now, at least I know there is always New Orleans Ice Cream Company’s Mardi Gras Pie (Marshmallow ice cream, Chocolate flakes, and soft graham cracker). At this point, I’m not sure my ice cream addiction is curable!
